At about the same time I started making my home-made liquid laundry detergent, I started using home-made wipes to clean the toilet. Since then, no more industrial products sit next to our toilets, except very soft toilet paper, of course! :p
Here are the two recipes for the home-made products that I use to clean the loo: The wipes and the tablets.
Wipes for cleaning toilets and other surfaces
For this home-made household product (great for all surfaces, not just toilets), you will need a bowl, a reclosable container (with a notch on the lid (optional)) and dust-cloths. (I used to use paper towels, but I am trying to reduce my waste.)
The necessary products:
- white vinegar
- 70 percent alcohol
- Liquid dish soap (preferably organic)
- Lemon or lavender essential oil
Instructions for 4 medium size cloths:
Put your cloths in the closable container.
In a bowl, pour 15cl of white vinegar, 7cl of water and 7cl of 70 percent alcohol. Mix with a tablespoon of liquid dish soap and a dozen drops of essential oil. Pour into the container.
The optional notch on the lid of your reclosable container is to pull the wipes out.
For use, wring out the wipe if it is too wet and use it just like a disposable wipe, except that you will just need to put it in your dirty laundry afterwards.
Start again when the container is empty 🙂
(Yes, the smell of vinegar is present, but it leaves quickly)
Disinfectant tablets for toilets
In order to make your own disinfecting tablets to clean the toilets, you will need an ice tray, a bowl or container, a spoon, a reclosable jar and the products listed below:
- 150g baking soda
- 40g citric acid
- 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap (preferably organic)
In your container, mix the baking soda with the citric acid and then add the liquid dish soap. Mix well.
The mixture will inflate, let it fall back a bit before filling your ice tray with the preparation.
Then let it harden for one night or more if necessary and unmold. Keep the tablets safe from moisture. -for use, put one (or two) tablets in the toilet, let it dissolve and rub! 🙂
