Golf in Rosses Point, Sligo, Ireland

[Madeleine]- I fell in love with Ireland in 2012 during a first expatriation to Dublin and I decided to return to live there in 2015, but this time in Sligo.

Expatriation to Dublin, capital of the Republic of Ireland

The reason for this expatriation

During my studies at Sup de Co La Rochelle, I was obligated to do an internship abroad. I had no favorite destination, so I was sending applications everywhere. Finally, I was chosen to do an internship in digital communication within a large Irish Tour operator in Dublin.

I left 4 months from February to May 2012.

Life in Dublin

When I arrived, I stayed a few days in a hostel while I was looking for a place to live. Then, I was living in the 18th district of Dublin, south of the city because my company was in this area.

In Dublin, I was able to go out partying, celebrated St Patrick’s Day in Temple Bar, but also meet lots of people and discovered a lot of beautiful places in the Irish capital.

My getaways in Ireland

Discovery Weekend

During my internship, I had the opportunity to go on a familiarization trip through Ireland with my colleagues. We went on a trip to evaluate the hotels, restaurants and visits in which we send our customers. We visited the county of Sligo, Donegal, Mayo and Galway (Connemara).

Getaways in Galway

During the whole time I was in Ireland, I had the opportunity to see a friend who was an au pair close to Galway, and thus to discover this charming town in the west of Ireland.

The reason for this expatriation

At the end of my master in Digital communication, in February 2015, I was looking for work either in France, in Ireland or in England but I really wanted to go back to Ireland because it was my dream since the internship I did in Dublin in 2012. In August 2015, I was hired in a French receptive Tour operator as a Community Manager. So I went to live in Sligo in the northwest of Ireland and stayed there for three months.

Life in Sligo

Sligo is a small town of less than 20 000 inhabitants in County Sligo. I lived in a house-share with 4 other people (Lithuanians, German and Canadian) which allowed me to meet a few people and not be alone. I also went golfing for the first time in my life with my Canadian house-mate.

My trips in Ireland

Discovery Weekend

I had the chance to go on a weekend trip with my company to discover one of the oldest regions of Ireland. We left for county Meath where most of the megalithic tombs are located, as well as superb castles and other extraordinary places to visit.

Family stay

My parents came to visit me for a week, and we were able to visit the Wild Atlantic Way, in other words the wild coast. The Connemara that I already knew, the county of Clare with the cliffs of Moher and the Burren. We also went north of Sligo, in Donegal, to see the cliffs of Slieve League.
